Sex and the City 2: The Movie That Should Have Never Been Made. Sorry.Posted by: Burton on May 27, 2010 Tagged in: Beehive Blog

First let me say, I am a massive fan of the series, the book, the women, the fashion, etc. I have followed these women's ups and downs from day one and have enjoyed every minute of it.
Second let me say, I LOVED the first film. Loved it. I cried when Carrie pummeled Big on the NYC street with her wedding bouquet while wearing that beautiful dress. I laughed until I cried when Charlotte shit her pants in Mexico. I loved the clothes, the storyline and of course, my four favorite ladies. So I could barely contain my excitement to see the sequel. But I sit here afterwards feeling a bit.......confused.
I just can't figure out what it was about. I hate to compare it to the first but there we saw one of our girls in major turmoil while the others gathered around her for support showing us what true girlfriends are all about, what these particular girls are all about. Then we saw our girl finally find happiness. Fantastic. Loved it.
In the sequel, the fashions weren't as fabulous, they left Manhattan way too early, the jokes fell flat and the fresh, unique viewpoint they gave us all these years has just vanished. This is the sequel that should have never been made. Never.
It's like they just couldn't find any real true-life turmoil to put these ladies in because I think the writers have just run out of ideas. The situations they were put in were so contrived: Charlotte feels threatened by her too good-looking nanny, Samantha is questioned about a dress being "too young" for her, Carrie is looked at with pity by a fan when she admits she does not want children and Miranda feels degraded by a male boss. I feel like I've seen this all before. Where's the post-it note break-up that made SATC so fresh and fun?
But I do have to say, the one storyline that really struck me was Charlotte. She dreamed so long of having a family and now she has one but feels overwhelmed and unsatisfied. At one point she locks herself in a closet to cry. This was the one storyline that felt fresh and actually a bit surprising. There is a wonderful scene between Charlotte and Miranda where they discuss the struggles of motherhood that really injected the movie was some true emotion and heart.
Some other great moments? Liza Minelli singing "Single Ladies" - fantastic! Ummm....I'm struggling to come up with another great moment. Wow, that's depressing.
I just wish I had the memories of just the show and the first movie. Instead, it's all ending with a big disappointing thud.
So ladies, what did YOU think?? Am I the only one who was slightly, well maybe greatly, disappointed?
