Zooey Deschanel will play Loretta Lynn in an upcoming musical stage adaptation of Coal Miner's Daughter, reports People.  Evidently, Loretta Lynn personally picked Zooey to portray her in the Broadway musical. Sissy Spacek earned her Best Actress Oscar for the 1980 film by the same title.

You'd never think someone who's into Joy Division and Beastie Boys would be into Loretta Lynn, but damn it if I don't LOVE Loretta Lynn!!!  I love her songs, I loved the movie, and I think Zooey Deschanel is perfect for the role.  She's just charming and adorable and her voice is actually well suited to sing honkey tonk songs! It's great news all around.

No date has been set for opening, but I so want to catch this show now.  I just want to hear Zooey say, "Doo, Doolittle Lynn" or "Stop a growlin,' you sound like a bear."
